February starts off with a bang this week as we continue to enjoy Catholic Schools Week. We had a great turn out at Mass on Sunday to kick off the festivities. So far we have enjoyed bagels and juice, had a visit with our guest reader, Mrs. Selig, had a dance party, and played our favorite board games. We are looking forward to ice cream sundaes, crazy hat/sock day, and ending the week with a movie. We hope that you will be able to join us Wednesday (1/31) night for Open House 6:30-7:30 PM. This is an opportunity for your child to show off his/her classroom as well as all of their hard work. This week is not only about fun, but also service to those in need. We have been collecting soup for Foodlink, new socks for students at School #34, and making valentines with our 2nd grade buddies for the homebound in our community.
During February we will continue learning about hibernation and migration as well as doing some Valentine’s Day literacy and math activities in our centers. We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day in class on Tuesday, Feb. 13 and Wednesday, Feb.14. We will be exchanging valentines during those celebrations so I ask that each child bring in an empty cereal box by next Monday (2/5) when we will be making them into mailboxes for valentines. I will be sending home a class list this week so that you know how many valentines are needed. The children may bring in any type of valentine that they choose. Each child should be able to sign the valentines themselves in order to practice their printing. I encourage you to assist them in writing their classmates’ names on the envelopes for “delivery”. This will help them practice their name recognition. We will have a large mailbox for them to put the valentines in until delivery time, so feel free to send the valentines in whenever they are ready. If you are able, please send them all in a large Ziploc bag so that your child’s valentines stay together. We will need some supplies for our celebration, so watch your email for a sign up genius coming soon.
