A Note from the Principal 11-20-20
November is quickly getting away from us! Last Friday, all kindergarten -6th grade children brought home their first report cards of the year. They worked hard and their efforts show in their grades. Thank you children!
Thanksgiving break begins on Wednesday, Nov.25th. We will have our virtual Thanksgiving Prayer Service on Tuesday 11/24th at 9:00 am led by the 2nd grade. Look for a link next Monday to the YouTube video.
We hope you all enjoy your time with family feasting on some turkey and pie. If you are traveling out of state there are restrictions put in place by NYS as to when your children can return to school. Please stay safe & healthy!!!
COVID-19 TESTING UP-DATE
Thank you to everyone who turned in their COVID-19 Testing Permission form. We have begun testing our students and staff and have had all negative results. Every day we are testing between 9-10 students and 2-3 staff.
By participating in this initiative, we are helping to show that schools are indeed the safest place for children to be! If you haven’t had a chance to fill out the permission form yet, here is the link! https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=6kx4-Nx9wkuTitcb1bSeOgxkd4MgiGtIu8ceGTcLRgJUM1pVUEkxTDhGSUcwQk1FOFZUQUNZWlJXNy4u
P A R E N T / T E A C H E R C O N F E R E N C E S
Don’t forget to attend your P/T conferences on Monday and Tuesday, November 25 & 26! If you did not schedule an appointment to meet with your child(ren)’s teachers please do so. These conferences are mandatory.
Remember, these are both half days for students. To the best of our knowledge, busing will be provided by most districts with the exception of: Fairport, Rush/Henrietta, and Churchville/Chili. I would advise contacting your district for confirmation.
MARATHON
Today was our whole school Marathon Dress Down day!
Every student used one of their first dress down pass. All other passes are coming home today in your child’s folder/backpack. You can choose when your child uses the rest of their passes. Please do not lose these passes. There are no replacements for lost passes.
ADVENT/CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS
Our staff is working overtime to make our familiar holiday traditions a reality! Many of our events will be videoed and the links will be shared with you. In school, we will all simultaneously watch each prayer service from our classrooms.
If any parent or volunteer is adept in digital video editing, we could really use your help! Please email me and we will put you to work. [email protected]
Here are some of the events! Second Grade is preparing to video their Thanksgiving Prayer Service AND their Christmas trees are in production! First Grade is finalizing their Thanksgiving Feast and looking into videoing their Christmas Prayer Service. Preschool is getting excited to celebrate their Advent Prayer Service on Friday December 18th, and Kindergarten is gathering their plans for their Advent Prayer Service! We are so busy at this time of year!!! Finally, Ms. Snyder reports that the whole school Christmas Concert is going to be amazing and you won’t have to come out in the cold to enjoy it! See the “Dates to Remember” below!
SETON SERVICE PROJECTS
Blessing Bag Service Project
Thank you for helping us live up to our reputation that Seton is a community of kindness and generosity. The response to our Blessing Bags was tremendous. Today the whole school participated in filling the bags. They will be delivered to the Open Door Mission. Special thank you to Mrs. Marissa Smith in Kindergarten for making this project a reality!
Use Book Drive
Last call for any gently used books! We will donate these books to a city school for distribution. Please send in your books!
Dress Down for $1.00!
On December 11 we will assist Christine Seeger, a Mercy Senior with her Senior Project. We will have a “Days for Girls”: Dress Down For $1 Fundraiser.
Days for Girls “changes the status quo through quality
health education, and income-generating opportunities
that give back days of opportunity and health.”
Everyone is welcome to bring in $1 and come to school dressed down on Friday, December 11th!
STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
October’s Student of the Month were honored today on our Morning Announcements. Aubrey Hessel (1S) and Harrison Gourdain (2M) were both recognized by their teachers for their outstanding attitudes, their kindness to others, and their hard work. If you see either of them congratulate them for all of us!
REMOTE LEARNING
While we feel strongly that every child needs to be in school every day. We recognize the need to be ready if area health concerns change. In preparation for the event of transitioning to distance learning, the teachers have been discussing what a Zoom class should look like. We have come up with a list of classroom expectations.
While the specifics of this document might change when the age of the student is considered, the sentiment does not. When our classrooms are on Zoom, students will be expected to act just as they do in the classroom. Please review the attached document with your children.
LOCKDOWN DRILLS
Next week, we will begin our safety procedures for potentially dangerous situations. We are required to practice 4 times each year. It is not our goal to frighten children and therefore we take a low-key but serious approach. We will continue to reinforce to our students that the need to practice lock-downs is the same as the need to practice fire-drills.
REMINDERS
As a courtesy to the neighbors around school, please shut off the engine of your car while you wait for dismissal.
