A Note from the Principal 4/8/22

Friday April 8

A Note From the Principal 4/8/22

It hard to believe that we are through the 3rd quarter! Today is the end of the 3rd marking period and report cards will go home next Thursday (4/14/22). This year has flown by so swiftly.

Our enrollment for next year is very strong! We have waiting lists in 5 grade levels! I expect to have some of those split next year into two classrooms. You can help! If you know anyone looking for a new school for their children for the 2022-2023 school year, please encourage them to come to Seton! Don’t forget our Ambassador Program! Both you and the new family can receive up to $500 per new student off your tuition for the 2022-2023 school year.

I hope you have a healthy and safe Easter Break and that your children return to us on Monday 4/25/22, rested and ready to get through the last quarter of this year!

Happy Easter!

NYS TESTING GRADES 3-6

An email and hard copy letter were sent out earlier this week with information regarding NYS Testing. Below is only an excerpt from that communication. For further information please refer back to the email or letter.

Math- April 26-27

Grade 4 Science- May 24 (performance) & June 6 (written)

Students in grades 3-6 are tested annually to measure their understandings relative to the New York State standards of their grade level. We are confident that with your support, our children will be prepared to do their best and not experience any unnecessary level of concern. Please assist your child by:

  • Providing him/her with a good night’s rest the evenings prior to the assessment.
  • Providing your child with a nourishing breakfast before each school day.
  • Keeping daily routines consistent and calm at home. If your child demonstrates increased anxiety, reassure him/her that putting forth their best effort is all that is important.

SETON RUN CLUB – SPRING 2022 SESSION

Run club for grades K-6 begins Tuesday 5/3. The registration form, below, and fee is due by Tuesday, 4/26.

SOUTH WINTON RD – GAS MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT

RG&E is replacing a gas main that runs along South Winton Rd. between Newton Drive and Palmerston Rd. The tentative project start is April 2022 with completion in late November 2022. As this may impact your commute to Seton, we are sharing the Public Fact Sheet below that was provided to us by RG&E. This fact sheet includes a map highlighting the areas of impact as well as contact information for RG&E should you have any questions.

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR CALENDARS!

A decision was made to change the following scheduled half days to full days. Our website calendar has been updated and District Transportation Offices have been notified.

Seton will have regular school hours on the following date:

Wednesday 5/11

MATH FACT CHALLENGE

Seton is using a math fact fluency challenge in order to help students better master their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.

Large number posters (0-12) were created to display on the walls outside of grades K-2, and large operation symbol posters for the upper grades (3-6). Teachers have been working on timed sprints with the students and each time their sprint is mastered (whether it be adding and subtracting with 1’s in primary grades, or multiplying and dividing by 5’s in intermediate grades) the class gets recognized with stickers on the posters. The grade number is placed on the sticker and then the sticker is placed on the poster. Students who do not master their current sprint have an opportunity to try again in a few days, and then try again, until they master it.
