A Note From the Principal September 19, 2019
Thank you for a wonderful beginning to the new school year. On behalf of the entire staff and faculty of Seton, a special “Thank You!” to our PTA president and vice president, Danielle Brown and Stacy Shea and all other parents for making the start so smooth! Also thank you to the PTA, who put on a wonderful continental breakfast for the school’s teachers on supply drop off day. I can say with certainty that this does not happen in other schools. It is such a great way to begin the school year!
SETON MARATHON: The Annual Seton Marathon for grades K-6 is set for Thursday, October 10th. This Marathon is the PTA’s main fundraiser. The monies raised directly benefit your children by providing additional funds for class filed trips and events. Our kick-off prayer service will take place in the gymnasium at 9:00 AM. Our rain date is Thursday, Oct. 24th. The modified Preschool marathons will be held on October 8th and 9th. Check with your PK teacher! These are all wonderful volunteer opportunities! Whether it’s the full school or the preschool marathon, come meet other parents and help us out! If you have not signed up to help and wish to do so, (more help is always needed) see the flyer in the Brown Envelope for contact information.
Pledge sheets, permission slips and volunteer sign-up sheets are included in this Brown Envelope.
PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION NEWS
The first Parents Teacher Association meeting was held on Wednesday, September 18th. The meeting detailed many early school events. Minutes for all PTA meetings will be found on our website. We look forward to the next meeting on Wednesday, October 16th, at 7 PM, in the Seton Conference Room next to the Main Office. All are welcome!
Our $20.00 PTA Activity fee is used to fund fieldtrips and other school activities that directly benefit your children. If you haven’t sent in your mandatory fee, please send your check to school made out to Seton PTA with “Activity Fee” in the comment section.
We are still looking for volunteers to lead two very important activities (see listed below). Please contact Katie Barnum (Alexis 3M, & Donovan PK3S) if you can help. [email protected]
- Chess Club is held on Friday afternoons from 2:30-3:30. It is a very popular and well attended club. We can’t start without a parent or two to volunteer to run it! Please consider giving some time to our Chess players!
- The Seton Scoop is in need of chair people! This is a fun way to interact with students interested in publishing our school newsletter. It goes out 1-2 times per year.
OPENING MASS
Opening Mass will be held this Friday at 8:30am. Our 6th grade class will serve as our mass leaders! This past Tuesday we went as a school community over to church to practice going to mass. I believe that it is unfair to expect children to just “know” what is expected of them. We practiced entering church, genuflecting, kneeling up tall, processing to communion, the sign of peace …. The list goes on! I think we are all going to be delighted this Friday during our opening mass. As always, you are always welcome to sit with your child with their class. Our next school mass will take place on Friday, October 4th, at 8:30am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Our 5th graders will lead us! Please join us if you can.
LUNCH MONITORS
Please note that Lunch Monitors are still needed for our lunch program! Please call the office or speak with Suzanne Mayausky, or visit our sign-up genius to see what is still available or to put your name on a substitute list. If you have already volunteered, please go to the sign-up genius and insert your name in those places. It will save Susanne a lot of work! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d45ada72ea1f85-lunch1
LUNCH & MILK INFORMATION
Yesterday, email blasts went to parents regarding the link for school lunches and information pertinent to hot lunch. Sign up as quickly as possible! No exceptions can be made for late orders! Please let the office know if you did not receive them.
PICTURE DAY
Next Wednesday, 9/25/19, is Picture Day! Children may dress up for school pictures! You should have received information previously.
MAKER-SPACE!
Our Maker-Space is coming together! Mr. Rued is beginning investigations with small groups of older students soon! Watch for more information in the near future!
SACRAMENT PREPARATION
As we begin the school year, please remember that all sacramental preparation is done in your home parish.
The Diocese of Rochester’s Policies for the Administration of the Sacraments states: “… Sacramental preparation programs of Baptism, First Penance, First Communion, and Confirmation are parish-based”.
Please contact your home parish for more information on First Communion and Reconciliation classes.
THANKS TO…
The Tombs family stepped up to give the front of our school a much needed make-over! Everyone has been commenting about how nice our school looks because of your quiet effort!
AND THANKS to John Nemechek for printing our parent directories! They will be delivered soon. They will be sent home with the classroom teacher of your youngest child.
SCHOOL CALENDARS
Our Seton Calendar on our website is the best place for you to find out information about dates and times for events at school! We are striving to keep all school-wide events posted for you in a timely manner. Please keep in mind that this is a living document and if dates need to be changed, they will be reflected on this calendar. https://www.setoncs.org/calendar/
FAMILY BREAKFAST
Our Annual Family Breakfast has been postponed due to the unexpected flooding and re-construction in our basement. A new date will be announced soon.
LASTLY,
Please remember that we are a peanut/nut free school. Remind your children that they are not to share their snacks or lunches with friends. If you are sending in birthday treats or any treats for your child’s classroom, please be sensitive to the needs to your child’s classmates. I know no-one of would ever want to be responsible for putting a child in danger.
